The video was too long so in a couple days I will upload the second part about harassment! Sorry, I know I'm talking fast! There are captions in English and Japanese so please use them if you can't understand me! And because the video was too long I edited out the disclaimers I needed to say to prevent people from nitpicking some of the small details, but I will write some of them here: America isn't a place where I constantly go around feeling afraid or anything, and it's definitely not a place I would consider "unsafe." But it IS a place where I feel like I have to be more guarded and aware of my surroundings, especially compared to Japan. Women in America are raised to be extremely careful of strangers, for example. It's not something that's constantly in the front of our mind, but rather something that is imprinted in the back of our minds so that when we recognize a situation that we've been told about red flags start shooting up all over the place and in that moment we become more guarded and careful. For example, if I'm walking out to my car in a parking lot at night and there is a van parked next to the driver's side of my car, immediately there will be red flags that go off and I have to think, "Should I ask a worker or security guard to walk me out to my car?" So what I'm tying to say is there are many types of situations that produce red flags for me in America, but the exact same situation in Japan would not produce a red flag for me because it is much more uncommon for something to happen in that situation in Japan that it is in America!
